Daoist rituals, also known as Daoist ceremonies or Zhaijiao rites, are important religious activities in Taoism aimed at communicating with deities through rituals to achieve purposes such as blessing, disaster prevention, and soul liberation. These rituals are usually conducted by Taoist priests who practice and uphold the Dao, using methods such as high power, reciting scriptures, finger gestures, walking on the celestial pattern, and mental visualization to convey the wishes of believers to the deities. 12 Daoist rituals can be divided into two main categories: Clear Rites (Yang Rituals): mainly used for blessings, welcoming good fortune, warding off disasters and plagues, involving requests for wealth, marriage, children, career, academic success, paying homage to the Tai Sui, and resolving misfortune through the Star of Destiny. For example, clear zhai rites can be used for national prosperity, auspiciousness, harvest protection, and plague elimination. 3 Dark Rites (Yin Rituals): mainly used for liberating souls of the deceased, including summoning the souls of the departed, bathing and crossing the bridge, and breaking open prisons and lakes
